Gerbils are one of the easiest rodent species to sex. The males have a distinctive bulge at the base of their tails which at four weeks old means that you can tell the difference from females. Even if there is not a distinct bulge, it is still easy to tell the difference between the two sexes as the two openings at the base of the tail are very close together in males but much further apart in females.
